An official promo for the sixth season of “American Horror Story”.

The new season of “American Horror Story” started out with a bang and what could potentially be one of the creepiest themes from the show so far.

The highly acclaimed television show did not disappoint with the beginning of the sixth season on September 14. This season is based on a true story of the Roanoke settlement in what is currently North Carolina  and has many complex characters and jump scares.

Warning: spoilers will follow.

“American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare” begins with a couple speaking directly to the camera in a documentary-type scene. Both Shelby (Lily Rabe) and Matt (Andre Holland) retell the things they went through when they moved into a new house together after a terrible tragedy, while Sarah Paulson and Cuba Gooding Jr. are the actors playing the couple in dramatic reenactment.

Shelby and Matt, who came to North Carolina to start over after a miscarriage, outbid a group of hillbillies with $40,000 for an 18th-century farmhouse. After living in their new home for a bit and starting repairs on the house, the couple start to have strange experiences including hearing bizarre pig-like noises, a mysterious phenomena of raining human teeth, and Shelby nearly drowning after someone or something attacks her in a hot tub.

The theme song starts as the credits roll at the end of the episode. The ending leaves the viewers confused, stunned and a little terrified. The episode provided many clues with just as many questions, leaving the viewer wanting more and anticipating the next installment.

The creator of AHS, Ryan Murphy, includes similarities with “The Blair Witch Project” in the new season. Just like “The Blair Witch project,” which was presented like a documentary, the episode uses footage simulating amateur shots that seem like real videos were taken of the event.

Very little information was released before the premiere of this season, although several teaser trailers were released prior to the first episode.

The themes between seasons can be a bit repetitive at times. There have been other seasons that involve miscarriages and a biracial couple just like this one. Even though there has been some similar themes throughout the television show, Murphy makes each season its own.

“American Horror Story” gives high expectations for this season, and leaves anticipation for the episodes full of new characters, plot twists, and horrific scenes to come.
