Corey Foltz, senior
After finishing in 39th place in last year’s Regional Meet, senior Corey Foltz was determined to finish this year’s race with all he had.
“I knew I had to run my best race for my team, and really wanted to go to state,” Foltz said. “So I knew if I didn’t run my best race, that we probably wouldn’t go to state. In my head I was just thinking and praying that I just do my best today.”
Compared to last year when the team fell only five points shy off qualifying for state, the seniors knew this race was their last chance. Every runner gave it all they had. The team finished fourth to take the final State Meet qualifying spot from Region II.
“Well, at first I was really confused, because for 10 minutes it was unofficial, and then it took like 30 minutes to know that we actually made it to the state,” Foltz said. “We were really happy, we cheered, huddled up, it was really fun.”
For Foltz, advancing meant a lot to him since last year’s Regional Meet. Foltz practiced everyday after that, while getting motivation and support from his teammates and coaches.
“I just ran my hardest every day, went back to varsity, was able to run for state,” Foltz said. “At the time, I was about to cry really, I was really happy and excited that I can do my best at state and get my best time.”
