Just like the rest of her teammates, junior Melissa Flores gave it her all in the grueling Regional Meet last weekend. Now, she simply can’t wait for the State Championships on Nov. 5.

“I was definitely pushing it and gave it my all,” Flores said, “I was like dead at the end, so I thought it went pretty well.”

During the race, none of the girls had their watches that tell them how much they’ve run, so Flores was disappointed with her time. She finished fifth on the team and 57th overall with a time of 24:06. After the girls found out the course was a half-mile longer than expected, they felt better about their individual times. But nothing felt better than when they found out they advanced to the State Meet

“Our coaches didn’t let us look at our phones because they didn’t want us to be disappointed if the rankings changed,” Flores said. “But once we knew, we were really happy and crying tears of joy.”

This is Flores’ second year running, so she said going to state feels slightly surreal for her. Of course, going to state is the most important and exciting thing of the the team’s upcoming trip, however, Flores said she is also pumped for something else.

“There’s these really big doughnuts called Round Rock Donuts,” Flores said, “We’re ready for those after the race.”
