At Regionals, junior Ian Maxwell participated in four events: the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. In the 50 yard, Maxwell got 3rd place and in the 100 yard, he got 9th. He helped the 200 freestyle relay to a gold medal and the 400 freestyle relay to a silver. 

Going into region, Maxwell had a sinus infection, which made him more nervous for his events. However, he still qualified for state.

“[I’m] trying not to get more sinus infections, you know from the storms and low pressure,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell, who was an alternate last year, is slated to be on the relay teams this year. It will make for an exciting and much different trip than a year ago.

“I’m actually going to have to swim, and I can’t just stay up till 4 a.m. doing nothing in my hotel room,” Maxwell said.
