After starring in the school musical “Seussical the Musical” as just a freshman last year, Emerson Harris plans to continue performing on stage.
This summer Harris performed in the Humble ISD Convocation for the teachers and staff. A group of students from all the high schools in the district performed six song and dance numbers relating to the new concepts that superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Fagen is implementing. One performance included “Never Grow Up” from the musical “Matilda” after Dr. Fagen spoke about the new playground upgrades across the elementary schools.
Practices were almost every day from mid-June to August and lasted three hours. They spent time learning the music and choreography.
“It was a long process but the payoff in the end was worth it,” Harris said.
Convocation provided Harris an opportunity to expand her love for performing over the summer. Harris was put on varsity theater for this year and plans to take part in many of the upcoming shows.
“The [Kingwood Park theater] community is like a family, everyone treats each other like siblings,” Harris said.
