When the highly anticipated musical movie Wicked finally arrived in theaters on Nov. 22, merchandise was already everywhere. With 70+ brand partnerships, I had mixed feelings about a lot of the merch, but some of them stood out to me. These are my top 10 Wicked merch products/collaborations:
1. Target – In the number one spot is Tony award-winner Paul Tazewall’s collection with Target, featuring clothing, accessories and more. Tazewall designed the costumes for the Wicked movie, and his merch collection has a range of options, from subtle sweaters for adults to kids’ dress-up costumes.
2. Starbucks cups – With over 12 different cups and tumblers, as well as keychains and mugs, Starbucks is offering an Elphaba collection, Glinda collection, and Emerald City collection. Using colors and patterns inspired by the movie, these cups are truly “thrillifying”.
3. Funko pops – Now available are Funko Pop collectable Wicked characters. There are multiple variations of Elphaba and Glinda, as well as Pops of Fiyero, Madame Morrible, and The Wizard. Although the special Valentine editions of Elphaba and Glinda are a bit creepy, the rest are very cute.
4. Mac & Cheese – Sold at Walmart, Wicked Mystery Color Mac & Cheese sounds a bit weird, but fun. When the cheese is mixed in, it will reveal either a green or pink color, inspired by Glinda and Elphaba. It sounds like a good lunch option to me!
5. New York Hilton – Through Jan. 26, the New York Hilton Midtown is offering a “Stay Like Wicked Experience” for guests. While I’m definitely not going to be able to stay there, it’s still pretty cool. The room is extravagantly decorated in the style of Oz, and the bedroom is split into a Glinda side and an Elphaba side.
6. Build-a-Bear – In addition to Wicked-themed costumes and outfits for your favorite teddy bear, Build-A-Bear now has a green Elphaba teddy bear and a Glinda bunny. They even have “Defying Gravity” and “Popular” available as songs you can put into your stuffed animal. My personal favorite is the adorable Glinda dress!
7. Lego – Lego is now selling four Wicked-themed sets, including Elphaba and Glinda figures, their dormitory, the Emerald City and the entrance to Shiz University. All of the sets have a lot of cute details and the iconic pink and green color scheme.
8. Vera Bardley – These bags and blankets are very subtly themed, but they are very cute. With pink and green options, there are duffel bags, tote bags, cosmetic bags, and more. While they’re not very clearly Wicked, they are themed and definitely a good option if you want something more subtle.
9. Betty Crocker cake pops – This cake pop mix will mix to reveal the color as either Glinda’s pink or Elphaba’s green, and it makes eight vanilla cake pops. It seems a bit weird, but I would definitely try it just to see which color I got.
10. Crocs – With multiple croc charms available, there are two different shoes available – one Elphaba themed and one Glinda themed. The Elphaba clog is pretty cool, with a green color scheme and spell rune design. The Glinda clog has a heel built in, which looks pretty uncomfortable to walk in, but the pink and white bubble design is cute.
