“Infinity Nikki,” an open world dress-up game made by Infold released on Dec. 5 of this year, has blown away enjoyers of all types of games. It already has 20 million players in the first week after its release. With its stunning graphics, beautiful characters, and the ever-so-popular dress-up mechanics, this game really is one of a kind, and definitely a must-play for everyone.
It follows the main character, Nikki, who is looking for a dress for a graduation party in her mother’s attic. Her pet and best friend, Momo, find a dress locked away in a closet, and it looks ethereal, almost magical. The dress suddenly starts moving on its own, becomes stuck onto Nikki, and takes her and Momo to another world. This magical other world grants Nikki powers, such as purification and floating. She then meets a god, Ena the Curator, who sends Nikki on a quest to save more magical outfits; the “Miracle Outfits.” Nikki is stripped of her powers, and then her true journey begins in Miraland.
“Infinity Nikki” is the sequel to another game, “Love Nikki,” and they’re both a part of the Nikki series. The announcement of this game in 2022 sent “Love Nikki” fans ablaze, since there had been no new installation to the series since 2017. Personally, I had never heard of the game, nor did I even know about the franchise until recently. But when I saw somebody play-test it for the first time, I fell in love.
The game offers more than 450 pieces of clothing to collect, and 46 full outfits so far. Every piece of clothing is unique, and has a specific characteristic to it. No matter what aesthetics you like, this game has the clothing for you. It even offers more personalization, as in many different hair styles, eye colors, and even the skin tone can be changed. At any point, you can make Nikki look like a princess out of a fairy tale, to a punk-rockstar, and it is such a wonderful feature. It’s something truly unique, and never seen before in an open-world game.
Another key point would be the exploration mechanic. Aside from the dress-up and main story, this is probably the most captivating part. Being able to traverse this magical land, smiting monsters, and obtaining key items is my personal favorite pastime in “Infinity Nikki.” The game requires little to no knowledge of video games prior, it teaches you everything and eases you into the different mechanics until you are comfortable with it.
“Infinity Nikki” has only been released for about two weeks, but players like me have thoroughly enjoyed it and want more as soon as possible. Definitely my favorite open world game, and I cannot wait to see the rest of the story, the stunning outfits yet to come and the shenanigans that Nikki and Momo go through.
