So many kids have such a hard time studying that a lot of kids end up just never doing it.
Here are five of the best methods that often work for me when I study.
- Flashcards. Since 6th grade I have always used this method. And every time I do, I pass the test. Flashcards are great for memorizing things like vocab or terms in a class. Flashcards not only improve your memorization skills, but also your learning and focusing skills. It is perfect for me because I am a visual learner and I like to draw pictures of the term to learn it. It helps so much.
- Notes challenge. I hate notes and I know not everyone loves them either. An amazing way for notes to help you is to cover up one part of notes and quiz yourself. Highlighting and annotating the most important parts of the notes can help you figure out what part you need to memorize. Once you’ve found your most important parts, cover them up and recite them to the best of your ability. If you can, write the important parts of the notes down and you will most likely not forget it.
- Mind maps. If you’re a visual learner, this will be one of the best ways to study. A mind map to me is one big circle that has the main idea of the unit in it and then a bunch of other pictures and words to help you remember the unit. You can put the most important topics in the mind map and then just whatever helps you remember it. Mind maps also help people who are creative, and it definitely boosts your ability to remember things.
- Food method. It is super important that you aren’t hungry before a test or quiz. It can lead you to be unfocused and tired. While studying, eat a certain thing like a granola bar or apple. When you’re about to take your test, eat the same thing you ate while you were studying and it can help you remember certain things. It can also work with gum, most likely the same flavor you used while studying.
- Writing summary. A short summary of your unit can help so much as well. I don’t know exactly why it works so well, but writing down what you’ve learned and what you know helps so much! Writing it almost engraves it in your mind and is amazing for vocabulary. It can be used for absolutely anything and works well with memorization.
Try even just one of these and see the difference it can make.
