A year ago, the football team went 5-4 and made its first playoff appearance since 2014. This was the first time coach Clayton Maple reached the postseason with the Panthers.

The season was “a lot of fun,” he said. “Making the playoffs was special for the seniors.”

This season, Maple is looking for his team to return and advance in the playoffs, even though there are a lot of new faces on the team. One of the newcomers is junior receiver Canen Adrien. This is Adrien’s first year on varsity, and Maple is excited to see him play.

Adrien said his goal for this season is to win district and make the playoffs again.

Although there are a lot of new faces on offense, there are a lot of returning players on defense. Both Canen and Maple described the defense as a strength. The defense was great last season and it is poised to be even better this season. The offense is running a fast paced system and is expected to be exciting to watch.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our guys play really hard and competing against a good Angleton team,” said Maple about the opening game Sept. 30 at Turner Stadium.
