It was July 5, 2019, and I was scrolling through movies and TV shows on Netflix. As I was scrolling, I saw that in the No. 2 spot for TV shows was “Stranger Things.”
I clicked it almost immediately and a small clip for Season 3 of the show played. I didn’t want to see any spoilers so I went to the seasons/episodes section, and clicked Season 1. After that, I read the summary for Episode 1, and got hooked instantly. I selected Episode 1 – “The Vanishing of Will Byers” – and I couldn’t take my eyes off of the screen.
Over the course of the next 24 hours, I completed all three seasons of the show. I went through every emotion from laughing to crying, it truly is the best show of all time. After I sat with it for a few days, I rewatched some of my favorite episodes at that time – “Trick or Treat,” “Freak,” “The Gate,” and “The Battle of Starcourt.” I fell in love with the characters, like they were real people. My favorite characters were Steve, Max and Dustin.
Steve’s character development from Season 1 to Season 3 is what made me love his character. I relate to Max the most out of every character because she’s sarcastic and funny, and initially antisocial until she meets people that won’t make fun of her and whom she can relate to. Dustin is truly just the heart of the show. He’s smart, loyal and loving.
I told all of my friends about it, rambling to them and my family about it, even my dog. I bought three “Stranger Things” posters and hung them up in my room to prove to my friends that I was the biggest fan in our group. I would do quizzes to test my knowledge of the show, acing every test that would say “Only 1% of Stranger Things Fans can get Most of These Right.”
Every night I would watch anywhere from one to four episodes, patiently waiting until Season 4 was released. Once it came out, I was traumatized. It was by far my favorite season of the show. “Dear Billy” and “The Piggyback” are my favorite episodes of the show and are insanely sad and just absolutely insane. They’re the best episodes of television – ever.
After three and a half years of waiting for Season 5 of “Stranger Things,” volume one finally came out. It was Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. I refreshed my TV and clicked the first episode, “The Crawl.” By around 11:30 p.m., I finished all four episodes. The long wait for the fifth season was worth it. It had the most twists and turns out of any other season. Episode 4, “The Sorcerer” was particularly insane, and had so many plot twists. I rewatched Season 5 over the span of a week, and now I just have to wait until Christmas Day then New Years for the end of the show that helped shape me into the person I am today.
