Elena Amos, freshman
As a freshman, Elena Amos was nervous at her first Regional Meet. But she was also excited and focused as she competed in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle.
She dominated in the 50 freestyle (23.19), winning by almost a full second in front of the next. She also helped lead the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay to gold medals. In the 100 butterfly, she took home bronze.
She will be a key contributor on this year’s state team.
“To me, it means I’m very lucky to go, especially because I’m only a freshmen,” Amos said. “No matter how it goes I know I still have more time left, so if I do horrible it’s not the end of the world.”
Going into regionals, her goal was simply to improve her times. She said her coaches have helped her and other teammates throughout the year continue to improve.
“They’re very supportive, they’re very understanding and they help everybody by being that way,” she said.
