Meet the cheerleaders

The varsity cheer team is co-ed and has more than 25 members. Each one plays a key role. Last year, the team won the 2025 UIL Spirit Coed State Championship for the first time in program history. They have high expectations as they transition from football season to prepare for competition season. Meet some of the members of this year’s varsity cheer squad.

Laurel Rummel, senior

Laurel Rummel (Lila Evans)

Stunt position: Side Base

Favorite thing about cheer: “The friendships that are built. We are all so close and it’s truly the best feeling when you go out on the mat not just for yourself, but for your teammates and best friends.”

How long have you been in cheer? “I started cheer in the seventh grade and started going to private lessons to get better because I love the sport.”

Favorite Song: “Afraid to Feel”

Favorite food/Restaurant: Crawfish. I love seafood and visit Louisiana all the time. Lots of family time there. We love it.”

Favorite movie: “My Favorite movie is ‘Happy Gilmore.’ It’s such a fun movie and my siblings and I love it.”

 

Allie Talley, junior

Favorite thing about cheer: “Being able to do it with the friends and coaches I love.”

How long have you been in cheer? “I have been cheering since I was 4. I was at Woodlands Elite and did school cheer at West Lake Middle.”

Favorite Song: Any song by Cody Johnson

Favorite food/Restaurant: “Taco Bell, because it’s a great late-night snack.”

Favorite movie: “‘Anyone But You.’ I love the actors and the storyline.”

 

Madi Staggs, senior

Favorite thing about cheer: Tumbling

How long have you been in cheer? 7 years

Favorite Song: “Bejeweled” by Taylor Swift

Favorite food/Restaurant: “Carrabba’s, because it is so good.”

Favorite movie: “‘National Treasure’ because you can watch it over and over again and it never gets boring.” 

 

 

Campbell Janicek, sophomore

Favorite thing about cheer: “The team environment.”

How long have you been in cheer? Since 6th grade.

Favorite Song: “Missed Calls” by Mac Miller

Favorite food/Restaurant: “What-a-burger, because I really like cheeseburgers.”

Favorite movie: “‘The Shawshank Redemption” because it’s a classic.”

 

Molly McCall, sophomore

Favorite thing about cheer? “Tumbling and pep rallies because they are really fun.”

How long have you been in cheer? “I have been cheering since middle school. I did three seasons of competitive and three seasons of school cheer.”

Favorite Song: “Wants and needs” by Drake.

Favorite food/Restaurant: “Starbucks, because I have gone there everyday  for the past three years.”

Favorite movie: “‘The Black Phone” because it is just a really good movie, and it is not technically a scary movie but is still fun to watch.”

 

Abbie Miller, junior

Favorite thing about cheer: “The memories and friendships it has given me. Also the strength and endurance I’ve gained.” 

How long have you been in cheer? “My whole life. My mom owned a cheer gym called LSA where I did competitive cheer for four years. Then I started cheering in sixth grade for my school. Then I was a freshman and competitive cheerleader at Summer Creek High School. Then I transferred to Kingwood Park my sophomore year.”

Favorite song: “In My Arms Instead”

Favorite food/Restaurant: “Canes. It’s fun to go there with all of my friends and eat.”

Favorite movie: “‘Tangled.’ It’s a childhood favorite of mine and I love Disney a lot!”
