Junior Logan Coburn was just 3 years old when he was first called up to play on his older brother’s t-ball team. Thirteen years later, Logan and Landon Coburn are together again and the stakes are higher.
The baseball team entered the playoffs and breezed through round one as they worked to return to the State Championship game in Round Rock. The team plays Iowa Colony in the second round tonight at Baytown Sterling. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
“All of my brothers have played baseball since we were about 3,” Logan said. “So me and Landon on the same team get to push each other to be great and win games.
The Coburns hope their connections with each other help the team during the playoff run.
“We’re definitely close and that helps us win,” Logan said. “Practice and games definitely help with that because we are around each other all day and we get home late together.”
Landon, after being moved from his pitcher position where he was named 1st Team All-District last season, has enjoyed playing third base and in the outfield, which is close to his brother.
“We just know what the other one is thinking,” Landon said. “There’s times we just look at each other and just smile.”

After catching a ball right in front of his brother’s face and falling on him, Landon watched as his brother got right back up, admiring his resilience.
“He’s a tough kid,” Landon said. “He’ll get hurt, but he’ll battle through it.”
Head coach Christopher Buechner has known the Coburns since their freshmen years. Landon has been on varsity since his sophomore year and Logan joined him this year as a junior.
For Buechner, the different leadership styles the brothers have brought to the team has helped the team succeed.
“They are completely different,” Buechner said. “Logan is a quiet, lead by example type of player, where as Landon is vocal.”
With the end of the season coming up, Logan will miss playing with his brother and hopes to go to State with him.
“He’s a great guy to play with,” Logan said. “Seeing how he lifts up his teammates and how he plays is great. I definitely look up to him.”
