Panthers make comeback to advance to State tournament

In the seventh inning, senior Landon Coburn slides into home plate to score the second run of the game. The run put the Panthers ahead, before Port Neches-Grove tied the game to go into extra innings.

For the second year in a row, the Panther baseball team is headed back to the state tournament.

In a tough three-game series against Port Neches-Grove, the Panthers fought back to become Regional Final Champions for the second year in a row. The Panthers lost the first game, 8-3, of a doubleheader on May 22 at Crosby High School. The boys then forced extra innings in the second game to win 8-4.

Kingwood Park defeated Port Neches Groves, 5-1, in the decisive third game at Lufkin on May 23.

The Panthers advance to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. A year ago, the team lost to Grapevine in the State Championships. This year’s state title game will be held June 5 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
