The boys golf team won the district golf meet to advance as a team to the Region Meet on April 13-14. The boys are hoping to qualify for State as a team for the first time in school history. The team missed going to State by three shots in 2024 and five shots in 2025.

Cory Case, senior

What is your favorite course you’ve played this year? “Walden on Lake Conroe because it has a lot of character to it.”
Who is your favorite pro golfer? “Scottie Scheffler because of his attitude and he’s pure.”
What pre-round routines or rituals do you have? “Eat carbs and hit 100 cuts with 8 irons that go 125.”
What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “I do this for God, and my team.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “Every time we have an away tournament and stay in a hotel, those are the best.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game and in what way? “My dad because he cares a lot for me.”
What was the highlight of the District Meet? “Laughing with my friends after the round while waiting for everyone to finish.”
What are you most excited about with the Region Meet? “The chance to go to State as a team.”

River Balcom, junior
What is your favorite golf ball brand and color to play with? White Taylormade Distance+
What is your dream club to own and add to your bag? “My dream club to own is a Taylormade QI35, because it looks like it would improve my game.”
What is your favorite course you’ve played this year? “Margaritaville because the layouts are perfect for my shot shape and the greens are always pure.”
Who is your favorite pro golfer? “John Rahm. He shows confidence with respectfulness as well.”
What pre-round routines or rituals do you have? “I like to eat Chick-fil-A before rounds.”
What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “Knowing that I would be a due for a good shot eventually.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “My favorite memory was seeing the whole team watch me hit my last putt to make regionals. Hearing everyone cheer made me happy.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game? “Coach Chancellor and Watson. They gave me the tip that I am swinging too fast through the top of my swing. There was an instant improvement with my drives.”
What are you most excited about with the Region Meet? “I’m excited to see if my game has improved enough to live up to the Top 5, like it did for districts.”

Max Raymond, senior
What is your favorite golf ball brand and color to play with? Taylormade White
What is your dream club to own and add to your bag? “A seven (heaven) wood, maybe a Taylormade sim 2. Heard great things about it, heaven wood seems like a fun one.”
What is your favorite course you’ve played this year? “Conroe Country Club, it was a well put together course that had a nice layout. Only nine holes but they are a great mix.”
Who is your favorite pro golfer? “Ben Griffin. I got to walk with him for nine holes. His swing is really weird and messed up. He’s a chiller though, got to talk to him a lot and he was very receptive when most guys weren’t.”
What pre-round routines or rituals do you have? “Just listen to some calming music and pray on the tee box (most of the time with Van Cradic) before my first tee shot.”
What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “I just want to make state really badly. Even though it seems like a long shot, I’m still hopeful.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “In basically all of our sleepover tournaments, Van, Cory, Parker,and I have just kinda walked around or thrown a football in random places – just kind of enjoying the moment while we have it. It’s been really fun just doing random things with the guys to pass time.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game? “My dad, he got me into the sport and has always kept me motivated and in a good head space.”
What was the highlight of the District Meet? “Watching River win the medalist spot. He had been talking to me about how bad he wanted to go to Regionals over spring break and I honestly didn’t think he could. But seeing him have an amazing two days and get the spot was so awesome.”
What are you most excited about with the Region meet? “The nerves. It could be my last ever tournament so I’m just excited to see what God has planned for me. Really hoping to go out on a high note and have a shot at State, but I guess we’ll see.”

Seth Ferguson, senior

What is your dream club to own and add to your bag? “Miura irons, because they are really nice and custom made.”
What is your favorite course you’ve played this year? “The Covey because it’s the number one course in Texas.”
Who is your favorite pro golfer? “Jordan Spieth because I have liked him ever since I was really young.”
What pre-round routines or rituals do you have? “Always say a prayer.”
What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “Really just taking it every shot at a time and letting the bad shots go over my head and forget them.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “My favorite memory is the state preview because it is a travel tournament and it is very fun.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game? “My brother because he pushed me to be better and always was there when I needed him.”
What was the highlight of the District Meet? “Winning, because it was me and Cory’s fourth district title.”
What are you most excited about with the Region meet? “Hopefully go to state with the team.”

Parker McGehee, sophomore

What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “National rankings, and I don’t want it to be bad.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “Being 1 man at Brenham Country Club.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game and in what way? “My coach because he made my golf game.”
What was the highlight of the District Meet? “Probably the front nine, and I shot even and 2 over.”
What are you most excited about with the Region meet? “To beat Cory and go to State.”

What is your favorite course you’ve played at this year? “My favorite course I have played this year was on Seabrook Island South Carolina.”
Who is your favorite pro golfer? “I enjoy watching Jordan Spieth because he is going to have an amazing comeback story when everything clicks.”
What pre-round routines or rituals do you have? “Before every round I pray and ask for peace throughout the round and to play well.”
What keeps you motivated on the golf course when things aren’t going so well? “I try and take a deep breath and just think about the next shot.”
Describe your favorite memory with your team this season. “The hotel room experience on the travel tournaments we had.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your golf game and in what way? “As of right now, it is the varsity boys because I really want to make it out of regionals and go to state.”
What was the highlight of the District Meet? “Everyone surrounding the green on 18.”
What are you most excited about with the Region Meet ahead? “I am most excited about the opportunity we have to go to state.”
