The orchestra’s annual spring trip will be held in San Antonio this weekend, with the competition being held at Boerne Champion High School. Spring trip is more than just the competition, however, it’s about bonding, celebrating, and getting to spend time in San Antonio with the orchestra family.
The orchestra has different groups based on skills, so for most competitions every group is separated. Spring trip is different, however, and that’s why it’s so important to all orchestra members.
Underclassmen get the opportunity to step up and learn challenging music pieces. They also practice more and work alongside upperclassmen. Orchestra director Evan Farmer said that he hopes that everyone learns from the music but “especially our younger students who have never played music this hard.”
The orchestra has been rehearsing every Tuesday since March 31. During practice, Farmer conducts but also leaves time for his students to work together.
“(It) gives a chance for our upperclassmen to teach and lead, so they are growing as well,” Farmer said.
Besides the competition, spring trip is also known for the orchestra getting bonding time in. Since it’s the end of the year, many seniors are especially excited since it’ll be their last spring trip. On Friday night, the group will visit the San Antonio Riverwalk and on Saturday they will visit the Natural Bridge Caverns.
“Spring trip is gonna be especially great this year, and there’s so many reasons why,” Santi Cruz said.
