Eternity is a captivating, complex and mind-altering experience that not only shifted my idea of life itself, but also the idea of love. The film is full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole movie.
The movie is centered around the main character Joan, who is played by Elizabeth Olsen. Who has tragically died, and now must make the toughest choice her life has led her to. She lived a fulfilling life full of love but now in the end she has to choose between her husband of 65 years who is played by Miles Teller. Or her first husband who died while fighting in the Korean war, played by Callum Turner. That she unfortunately never had the opportunity to complete her life with.
Will she choose to complete her life with the man she never once had the chance to? Or will she spend the rest of eternity with the man she died with? How will this choice impact her and the one she doesn’t choose? During this whole movie I had so many questions. I wondered who the better choice would be because both of Joan’s love interests had specific reasons to be chosen. So either choice felt reasonable to me.
The tension in this movie is unmatched with any movie I have ever seen, and the setting being in a place called “Eternity,” which is exactly what it sounds like. Each person arrives and either gets the choice to wait for loved ones or start their life in their own eternity.
This creates an intense feeling that results in wanting to know more, but the only downside is this feeling drags. It is not fast paced, which keeps you guessing the whole movie and questioning what choice will be made along this journey. I typically don’t like slow-paced movies but this movie is an exception for me.
Ultimately, everything in this movie is unreal, and it almost seems like I’m making the choice with Joan. Elizabeth Olsen, puts together an exceptionally good performance. With the perfect mix of drama and an overwhelming love triangle, the movie keeps you hooked the whole time.
