A new science class seems to be on its way. AP Environmental Science may be added to advanced science options next fall after multiple students requested the class at counselor meetings. A Google form was sent out to students on March 27 to see how much interest there was in adding the class.
The teacher expected to teach the class is Biology and Pathophysiology teacher Jerri Clay. She taught AP Biology for three years in her previous job.
Clay said the class would consist of 40% labs, so students can gain a real-world understanding of plants, animals and the planet.
“AP Environmental will allow kids who wouldn’t have normally taken a dual credit science class, the opportunity to take one, simply because it is a broader concept,” Clay said.
The class gained popularity among students for its reputation as being among the easiest AP classes, Clay said. In the past five years, more than 50 percent of students passed the AP Environmental Science test with a 3 or better. The success-rate reached an all-time high in 2025 with 69.2 percent passing.
Junior Katherine Kotter was interested in the class because friends at Kingwood High School highly recommended it. She is excited to gain an understanding of conservation efforts and sustainability.
“I wanted something that was not too hard for my senior year so that I could relax but something that I would still be interested in,” Kotter said.
