KP Times is the student-run publication of Kingwood Park High School in Kingwood, Texas, which includes both the print editions of the KP Times newsmagazine, as well as the content posted on this website, kptimes.com.

The publication began in the 2014-2015 school year under the advisory of KPARK journalism teacher Megan Ortiz, with a staff of four students. Ortiz, a former sports columnist for the Houston Chronicle, directed KPARK’s journalism program for two years, leading the publication to receive awards on both state and nationwide levels, in addition to individual staff members receiving awards such as the Gold Key from the Quill and Scroll National Honors Society.

The publication grew to a staff of twenty for the 2016-2017 year, and while Ortiz left KPARK, her spot was filled by Monica Rhor, formerly an investigative reporter and a narrative writer at the Houston Chronicle.

Rhor resigned in March 2017, and next year’s staff is looking forward to meeting their new adviser.

KP Times seeks to tell the stories of the students and staff at Kingwood Park as well as others in the Kingwood community. We are dedicated to factual reporting, ethical journalism, and the idea that every person has a story to tell.
