Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving” feels like a breath of fresh air in the music industry right now. It has quickly become a standout album, with the sweetness and warmth of her music. With each track she shows different sides of love and the simple joys in life.
When I listen to Dean’s music, It immediately puts me in a good mood and helps me have a positive outlook on my day. The first time I heard Dean’s music was on social media and I was surprised at how refreshing it was. It made me immediately go listen to her albums and it left a lasting impression just after one listen.
Dean’s voice is very unique and her music never feels forced or meaningless. She has a natural flow that makes her lyrics feel intentional and honest. In today’s music industry, it can be hard to find artists who put out music as a form of expression and joy. Sometimes when I hear new music, it just seems like it is focused on having a trendy sound. When I listen to Dean, though, I can truly feel the emotion behind her music.
The second track, “Nice to Each Other,” is the main song that attracted me to her music. This song is perfect for going on walks or listening while you’re cleaning or really anything. Sometimes in the morning, I will listen to music when I get ready for school, and this song can completely alter my day for the better. Some of my other favorites are “Baby Steps,” “Let Alone the One You Love” and “Lady Lady.”
Even though it is not on the album, Dean’s cover of “You Can’t Hurry Love” (originally by The Supremes) blesses my ears every time I listen to it. She has such a good take on an older song and somehow manages to bring the same energy that The Supremes left.
Overall, “The Art of Loving” is an album that brings back genuine connection with music, comfort and peace. It really is an album to be “loving,” and I’m sure it will be well-remembered and listened to for years to come.
