FFA had a busy November as 21 students competed in the Leadership Development competitions. Agriculture Science teacher Genevieve Ubnoskye, who has been involved in FFA for 37 years, said this year’s competition stood out in a big and different way.
“We had two of our teams advance to Area – Public Relations and Senior FFA Creed,” Ubnoskye said. “Last year, we didn’t have any teams advance from district to Area. We had very dedicated teams this year.”
The two groups put together strong showings at Area as well.
“They did not advance to state, but they were proud of the work that they had done and I was equally as proud of them,” Ubnoskye said.
Even though the competition ran smoothly, there was one stressful moment during it. The Public Relations team brought a TV to use for their presentation, but once they arrived at C.E. King High School, it stopped working.
“Luckily, they had a TV in the room where the competition was and we were able to put our presentation on there,” Ubnoskye said.
Katie Tims, who is the vice president and has been in FFA all four years of high school, competed in Public Relations along with teammates Cate Fowler, Bryleigh Romig and Ashlyn Stadelbacher.
“We presented to judges about FFA and about what it is,” Tims said.
The other student to advance was Breanna Muller in Senior Creed.
“The look on their faces when they found out they were moving to the next level,” Ubnoskye said. “It was an emotional day.”
